Headhunter! I don’t like the sounds of that!

The term headhunter is often used in our industry and we are sometimes asked; what is a head hunter and how is a headhunter different than a recruiter? There is no definitive answer to these questions. Headhunter started as a slang term for an employment recruiter. The term though is sometimes thought to refer to a more aggressive recruiter. Someone who aggressively seeks out candidates looking for work and isn’t afraid to go after currently employed candidates. However, many people just use the term headhunter synonymously with recruiter.

So what do we prefer and how do we see ourselves? We prefer the term recruiter and use it regularly. We think that the term headhunter sometimes has some negative connotations so we avoid it. We also don’t see one as being more or less aggressive in their approach. We take a tailored approach to every client and every job search to ensure we get the best results. Our role is to develop a clear understanding of our clients requirements and develop a short list of qualified candidates’ that we feel will fit in well with the organization. We then help facilitate the selection and hiring process.
